My Approach to Psychiatric Care

“Care that starts with listening, not labeling.”

People often come to psychiatric care after spending a long time feeling unheard, overwhelmed, or unsure of what they’re experiencing. Many have tried to push through symptoms, manage on their own, or minimize what they’re feeling because life still “looks fine” from the outside. By the time they reach out, they’re often tired, frustrated, or simply wanting clarity.

My approach to psychiatric care starts with slowing that process down.

Mental health is complex, and no two people experience it the same way. My role as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is not to rush to labels or quick fixes, but to understand the full picture of what’s going on and work collaboratively toward goals that actually matter to you.

Change- We can help

Care that starts with your goals

I believe that effective psychiatric care begins by understanding what a patient wants their life to feel like, not just which symptoms they want to reduce. For some people, the goal is improved focus or energy. For others, it’s emotional steadiness, better sleep, or feeling more present in daily life. There is no single definition of progress.

You are the expert on your own experience. My role is to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help connect the dots between mental health, physical health, stress, and life circumstances. Treatment works best when it is individualized, flexible, and grounded in mutual understanding.

A collaborative and thoughtful process

Psychiatric care should never feel rushed or one-sided. I take a collaborative approach, meaning decisions are made together, not for you. Whether we’re discussing medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, or simply monitoring symptoms over time, there is space for questions, concerns, and honest conversation.

Medication can be a helpful tool for some people, but it is not the only option and it is never a requirement. When medication is considered, the discussion includes expected benefits, possible side effects, and how it fits into your broader goals. Thoughtful pacing and follow-up are just as important as the initial decision.

A whole-person perspective

My background in both medical and psychiatric care shapes how I approach mental health. Emotional well-being is deeply connected to physical health, sleep, hormones, stress, and life transitions. Symptoms rarely exist in isolation and understanding context matters.

This whole-person perspective allows for more nuanced care, especially for individuals who feel that their concerns don’t fit neatly into one category or diagnosis. Mental health care should adapt as life changes, not remain static.

Telehealth and inperson psychiatric care in North Carolina

I provide psychiatric care through both in person and secure telehealth appointments for children through the aging adults located in North Carolina. Telehealth allows patients to access care without travel, long wait times, or added stress. Many people find it easier to open up when they’re in a familiar, comfortable environment. There may be situations where in person visits are advised, this would be communicated when finalizing appointments.

Telehealth visits offer the same thoughtful evaluation and collaborative care as in-person appointments, while allowing flexibility for busy schedules, work demands, and family responsibilities.

Who this practice is a good fit for

Aligned Psychiatric Care is a good fit for individuals who are looking for:

  • A collaborative, respectful approach to mental health care

  • Thoughtful evaluation rather than rushed conclusions

  • Open discussion about options, including but not limited to medication

  • Psychiatric care that considers the whole person

  • Telehealth services within North Carolina

If you value being listened to and want care that aligns with your personal goals, this approach may be a good fit.

A final thought

Seeking psychiatric care doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with you. It often means you’re paying attention to your well-being and ready for support or clarity. Progress looks different for everyone, and it rarely follows a straight line. Psychiatric care should feel like a partnership, not a transaction. My goal is to provide a space where understanding comes first and treatment evolves thoughtfully over time.
